Nathan is six feet, two inches tall with dark hair that curls at the ends. He has hazel eyes that have flecks of green in them and depending on his mood these flecks can look more intense. His voice when he chooses to speak is a low, deep rasp due to the long scar across his throat. He tends to clothing in muted greens and browns or blacks as a vassal of Summer, though he'll wear a suit when acting as Summer's emissary. He carries a staff carved with leaves and leans on it as he walks with a limp. He also prefers to have a beard to cover up the scar on his throat though he will shave if he needs to look a bit more professional.
History:
Nathan is the eldest son of Angela and Arthur Petrelli. Both are enhanced humans who were horrified when Nathan was born and appeared to be normal. Realizing that Nathan would need powers to be able to help his coming younger brother Peter, who would be born with stronger abilities, Angela subjected her son to a serum that gave him the ability to control air currents. This manipulation also caught the attention of the magical world and both Fae Courts began keeping an eye on the Petrelli brothers seeing potential in both of them.
Nathan grew up knowing none of this and spent his life trying to live up to his parents expectations of him. He became a pilot in the Navy, married and had two young boys and kept an eye on his younger brother who was a bit of a dreamer. He knew he was being groomed for a political future and was preparing for congressional run when he and his wife Heidi were in a car accident. Nathan's abilities triggered that night and while he survived unharmed, Heidi died. Nathan's guilt over the accident makes him to deny he has abilities and when a strange woman named Lilly reaches out with an offer from the Summer Court to heal Nathan's emotional grief, he turns her down, but he becomes curious about the magical world and starts doing research.
Peter then comes to Nathan claiming he too has abilities, but Nathan shuts him down trying to focus on his Congressional campaign. But Peter forces the issue by jumping off a building and Nathan then reveals his own abilities . This kicks over several years of Nathan struggling to chose a side while at the same time trying to protect his brother and daughter Claire from other enhanced humans and even his own parents. At several of the lowest points in his life, Lilly returns to once again offer Nathan a place among the Fae which he turns down.
Things come to a head when Nathan is "killed" during a battle with Sylar, horrified by her son's death, Angela forces Sylar to shape shift into Nathan and then wipes his memory. Nathan, who is not yet dead, hears all this calls out to Lilly and finally accepts the offer to become her vassal. Lilly heals him as best she can, but Nathan is still left with a limp and a scar across his throat. He also changes his name to Mathew Conrad and uses his background as a lawyer to help the magical community.
He also keeps a close eye on Peter and Claire, but he is content to let his past die. To him Nathan Petrelli died in 2008 and he is content to let things stay that way.
